Make a Smile Children’s Dental and Orthodontics office in San Ramon, CA is welcoming to all cases: clients of a young age, kids who require an extra-gentle care with behavioral management, or a patient with special needs. Our dental office is always up to date with the newest pediatric dentist technology, entertainment, and distraction techniques to keep each patient feeling safe and comfortable. Our pediatric dentists offer a variety of sedation services, including in-office nitrous oxide, oral sedation, IV, and more. Comfort is our top focus when it comes to pediatric dentistry. Our focus goes way beyond just caring for the teeth of each young patient. Our staff is on board to ensure that you feel safe during your time with us.
HOW OLD SHOULD PATIENTS BE TO SEE A GENERAL KIDS DENTIST?
Make a Smile recommends that pediatric dental care should begin when a child’s first tooth appears. This generally happens around the age of six months old. Children should have lost all of their “baby-teeth” by 12 or 13 years of age. Many teen patients continue receiving services from pediatric dentists and orthodontists well into their teenage years.
READ ABOUT YOUR CHILD’S FIRST VISIT TO THE DENTIST
You might come into a Make a Smile pediatric dentist office more anxious than your children on his or her first visit, so try your best to stay relaxed! Our pediatric dentistry office is full of state-of-the-art orthodontics technology and vastly different from the pediatric dentist office you remember as a child. You will be delighted to see how comfortable you and your children will feel in our dental office. A positive outlook starts with your child’s initial dental office visit, and aids in successfully creating a life-long preventative plan for your child and their smile. Your child’s first dental visit should be scheduled as soon as the first sign of teeth erupt or before their first birthday. At your kids initial orthodontics visit, we are on board to provide the following at our dental office:
- A thorough review of your kids medical and dental history
- Helpful tips from the dentist on keeping your child’s teeth clean and healthy after nursing or
Bottle-feeding to avoid decay.
- To learn proper brushing techniques
- A comprehensive, non-invasive dental care exam to check soft tissue and
- A visit to the Make a Smile toy chest! Come and see!
You may join your child during treatment at any time; however, we also welcome you to enjoy movies, toys, and video games with your other kids in our reception area when you visit us. If you do plan on coming with your child during dental care services and treatment, try not to bring other children to that appointment, as space is limited in dentist offices.
It’s important that you’re on board to continue bringing in your child every six months following their first dental appointment or orthodontics appointment for evaluations, professional cleanings and general mouth health. Keeping up with regular scheduled pediatric dentist visits, as well as brushing and flossing will reduce the risk of decay. This will also give the orthodontist an opportunity to come across any potential first signs for braces. Generally, braces are not needed until all the baby teeth are gone and most of the adult ones have grown in, as we mentioned above. Invisalign, an alternative option to braces, is not provided for children but we are happy to discuss Invisalign options for older kids. If you are concerned with your child’s bite and they are under the average age to receive braces or Invisalign, visit us at our San Ramon office and we will gladly evaluate any patient issues.
