Make a Smile Endodontics

WHAT IS ENDODONTICS?

Endodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry that focuses on the inner part of the tooth, known as the dental pulp. This dental pulp contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues – the vital components that give life to your tooth. When these elements get damaged due to disease or injury, endodontic treatment becomes necessary to save the tooth and restore its health.

Endodontists are dental specialists who have completed additional years of advanced training beyond general dentistry. Their specialized skills equip them to diagnose and treat tooth pain and perform root canal treatments and other procedures involving the inner tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Endodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases or injuries of the dental pulp, root, and surrounding tissues. These treatments include root canal therapy, endodontic retreatment, surgery, and treating dental trauma.

An endodontist is a dentist who has received 2-3 years of additional post-graduate training in endodontics after dental school. They specialize in diagnosing and treating tooth pain and performing root canal treatment and other procedures relating to the inside of the tooth.

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is severely decayed or infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed

Modern techniques and anesthetics can make a root canal treatment virtually painless. While it’s normal to feel some soreness after the procedure, many patients find that root canals are no more uncomfortable than getting a filling.

All endodontists are dentists, but only a small percentage of dentists are endodontists. Endodontists have additional training beyond dental school that focuses specifically on diagnosing tooth pain and performing procedures relating to the interior of the tooth.
