Our Orthodontist, Dr. Derrick Tanihara, has been with Make a Smile since 2006,and received his Orthodontic Postdoctoral Certificate from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2002. His technical expertise, experience and LOVE for children has made him an integral part of the Make a Smile family and a leading pediatric orthodontist in the Metro Sacramento area.

Orthodontists are highly-trained dentists who have been certified to diagnose, prevent and treat dental and facial irregularities. Only 6% of dentists have continued through the orthodontic graduate program from an accredited American Dental Association school.

Orthodontics fix problems like crooked, crowded teeth or facial and oral deformities of the mouth that could have a direct effect on you or your child’s health. There are two types of orthodontics: Phase 1, or early treatment; and Phase 2, or traditional, adolescent/adult treatment.
